RUNDLE PREPARATORY

Education Level: Primary

The Preparatory School offers education for children aged 5 to 12 years from Grade 0 – 7. The curriculum provides excellent preparation for Secondary Education. Students follow a set curriculum of English, Mathematics, Science, 2nd Language (Afrikaans), Art, Themes (which embraces elements such as History, Geography etc.) and Physical Education. These subjects develop each learner’s unique potential; they help to flame their passion for learning and they support the holistic development of the child. The curriculum is designed to focus on intellectual enrichment, skills acquisition and social development. Tests will reflect the progression of the child’s ability through Primary Education and learners are awarded a Certificate of Achievement at the completion of the syllabus. Selected excursions and activities form an integral part of the curriculum, expanding on the extended commitment to experiential learning.

The Themes comprise a number of subjects and topics, giving the child a broad-based knowledge that includes relevant and contemporary subject matter, enthusing interest and allowing the student to select an appropriate set of subjects for the next phase of their education. Selected excursions and activities form an integral part of the curriculum, expanding on experiential learning.

Education Level: Cambridge Secondary 2

The Cambridge IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is designed for learners 14 to 17 years of age, the equivalent of Grades 10 and 11 in South Africa. 2nd Language (Afrikaans or French); Note: English 2nd Language is an option for foreign students;

Mathematics (Extended or Core).

The remaining 4 subjects can be selected from the subject options available at Rundle College (see available options listed below). The curriculum is designed to develop vital educational skills, including recall of knowledge, communication skills, initiative, critical thinking skills and teamwork. Some subjects have a coursework component and these are independently assessed and contribute to the final assessment grade.  All subjects are assessed during the course and progress reports give vital feedback to the parents and students on their growth and development. All subjects are finally assessed when the students write the external Cambridge International IGCSE Examinations, normally in the October/ November examination sitting for South African based students, but also in the May/June examination sitting for selected students and perhaps those wishing to improve a previous result.  Designated excursions and other activities form an integral part of the curriculum, so expanding on experiential learning and such endeavours are included into the curriculum.

Cambridge A-Level

Internationally recognised Cambridge A-Level is a qualification which allows students the freedom to increase their knowledge and understanding of specific subjects. A combination of Cambridge A-Level subjects supports those students who wish to study further and enter into a university either locally or abroad. A Cambridge International A Level qualification is accepted by universities in most countries of the world. For those students intending to study locally the benefit of Cambridge A-levels is enormous and A-Level subjects will greatly support a university application. It is a general requirement for international universities that a number of A-Level subjects be taken in order to enter into specific fields of study. This is particularly relevant to universities in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
